Miners Residence

A Modern Structure With Historical Meaning

This structure was designed with Canmore’s mining history in mind

Once a booming coal mining town; Canmore was one of the most important coal centres in Southern Alberta. With the historic mine location just meters away from where the house now stands, this modern mountain duplex pays homage to the origins of this mountain town. Mine shafts were once a common sight on the steep benches in this area of Canmore. This Russell and Russell designed Duplex are iconic and memorable as it presents itself as an open mineshaft on the mountainside. The timber frame entrance is a modern twist on the traditional post and beam support systems once used for a mine shaft entrances.

This three story structure boasts vaulted ceilings and remarkable views of both sides of the Bow Valley. Open concept is maintained throughout the entire house with an open iron and wood staircase connecting all three levels. This open design allows for four bedrooms, one home office, two sitting areas with plenty of space set aside for an open kitchen and dining room. Each side of this duplex features a heated double car garage as well as the heated driveway. Individual design also abled Allweather Builders Ltd. to include a three story elevator in unit B.

This duplex is an attractive combination of historical tradition and modern architecture
